Combination of desalination plant with high pressure boiler and steam turbine

This scheme associates a high pressure boiler with a steam turbine to produce electricity and provide low pressure steam for the desalination unit. The LP steam is usually around 3 bara, allowing the Multiple Effect Distillation unit to be coupled with a thermocompressor for enhanced efficiency.

Typically power-to-water ratios are 5:1, i.e. a production of 500MW of electricity for 100 MIGD of fresh water produced.
