Sidem was awarded a contract in August 2010 for the engineering, procurement, supply and assistance for erection and commissioning of 2 desalination units, 12,000 m3/day each, to be installed at MAEK Kazatomprom, Aktau, Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan. The units shall replace existing Soviet era vertical tubes multiple effect distillation units.
The project was awarded following a public tender held by MAEK in May 2010.
The client is MAEK Kazatomprom, a subsidiary of Kazatomprom, the world's largest uranium ore producer and national entity of Kazakhstan. The commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for 2012, and the second one in 2013. The project is carried out in consortium with partner GMMOS Kazakhstan who is in charge of the local fabrication of the evaporators.
