A 45MIGD (204,570m³/d) SWRO desalination plant in Umm al Quwain to be built on a privately financed basis. The offtaker is the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA).
FEWA is in the final stages of discussions with its chosen bidder, the team comprising ACWA Power and TECTON Engineering & Construction with SIDEM as main EPC Contractor.
Located 20km north of Umm Al Quwain city, the plant is slated to go online in 2020.
HISTORY OF THE PROJECT
Back in 2016, FEWA had awarded ILF Consulting Engineers to carry out the client advisory work on the future SWRO desalination plant of Umm Al Quwain.
Many developpers showed interest in the project and 18 submissions of qualifications were received by FEWA in June 2016. Since then, pre-qualified developpers have collected the RFP documents.
The exact location of the plant was confirmed by FEWA at the end of 2017 and three bids were submitted.
The consortium led by ACWA supplied the lowest bid in February 2018. Two other teams also made bids: Almar Water/Besix/Técnicas Reunidas and Acciona.
